About Us

Open Door is a charitable trust founded in 1984 and although based in Bray our catchment area covers North Wicklow and South County Dublin. Open Door is run by a Board of Trustees on a non-denominational basis.

Open Door Day Centre operates on a daily basis, Monday to Friday. We provide facilities and activities for adults with physical disabilities as a result of multiple sclerosis, stroke, motor neurone disease, spina bifida, road accidents and others. Our purpose built centre is designed to allow easy access to the various activities within the building. Open Door provides members with a vital social outlet and also the opportunity to learn new skills in computers, art, woodwork, music and ceramics. Open Door Day Centre also provides carers and their families with a well deserved break during the week.

Open Door employs 10 care workers, a physiotherapist and an occupational therapist. The staff ensure that each member is cared for and assisted as and when necessary.

Open Door is run by a Board of Trustees (as listed) on a non-denominational basis.

Support Open Door

Support

While Open Door is partially funded by the Health Service Executive, we have a deficit each year. Our Development team endeavours to meet this with help and support from many individuals and businesses in the community. Many thanks go to everyone who supports Open Door through donations, sponsorship and volunteer work. Your generousity helps us continue to provide this much needed service to adults with disabilities and their families.

Funds must be raised each year to continue with the many activities and services provided by Open Door. Annual events such as The Reggie Corrigan Open Door Golf Classic, The Flora Womens Mini Marathon, The Open Door Mid-Summer Lunch, bag packs and table quizes all help to bring in much needed funds. In addition to these events Open Door have art exhibitions where paintings, woodwork and ceramics are on sale and the Open Door Art Group also produces Christmas cards and greeting cards which are sold in the community.

Golf Classic

Sincere thanks to everyone who has taken part on behalf of Open Door - You have helped to raise significant funds for our many activities and facilities within the Centre. The 2011 Flora Women's Mini Marathon took place on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th June 2011.

Almost 50 women took part on behalf of Open Door Day Centre. The group included members, supporters, patrons and trustees and between them managed to raise significant funds. This is an important event for Open Door and each year substantial money is raised by the women who take part. Open Door provides a charity pack which includes sponsorship card, tee-shirt and information about the event. Transport is provided from the Open Door Day Centre in Bray and participants are treated to strawberries and cream and a glass of bubbly in Open Door's purpose built Centre at the end of the day.
